(Trying to) make a leap of faith

After watching The Futur interview with Seth Godin's 'Make Something Everyday,' I decided to do just that and (at least try) my hand at writing a blog post every day.

My first blog post coincides with the re-launching or properly launching of my creative business, Color Colour Creative. Having my own creative business has been a dream, but it wasn't until recently, when I was working in yet another uncreative 'creative' job, that I realized I had to focus on CCC. This is my most heartfelt creative endeavor so far. I am the most inspired and creative and do my best work when I am passionate about the small business I am creating work for.

Color Colour Creative will be focussing on Shopify sites and pitch presentations. See my packages page for more details.

This blog will aim to be an honest portrayal of a 40-something creative small business owner who aspires to be creative every day but sometimes gets bogged down by everyday life and the realities of having two small children, 5 and 3. Maybe my love of dark comedies will also appear. We will see what shakes out.

June is a great month for me to (re)launch my business. The summer always gives me optimism, especially coming out of a long winter in New York; it feels like I'm 'a beautiful butterfly' from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I have been quietly practicing yoga since June 1 and didn't want to commit to 30 days because I couldn't face the fact that I may not make it, but now that it's June 28, I feel quietly confident. I have also been reading and committed myself to Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, so it has been my most creative month this year. Yay!

My burnout has started to dissipate, and being creative every day has helped me get back to my true self. Another thing mothers with small children don't talk about is how hard it is in the first few years when they want you so much, and you neglect your wants and needs.

This is the first time that I have put myself out there in this way, but I figure 2022 is the best time to do that. I relate to business owners who normalize the struggle in an insightful way, Marie Forleo and Morgan Rapp come to mind, and of course, Tim Ferriss, who has created an amazing blog of constant self-improvement. On my self-improvement list for the year are surfing and singing. I am hoping to build on that.

Wish me luck. Here is me, failing small. Onwards and upwards.
